Our Foundation Mares

Big Bear's Aunt Pitty Pat

Pit Pat is a petite bay mare with a darling disposition. Her breeding is all Big Bear, and with her two excellent daughters Tip Toe and Patience comprises the  backbone of our breeding program.  Her Mac babies have dark bay coats, pony size, quality movement and stunningly beautiful faces. She has been a phenomenal producer for Day Star and is now spooning around a creek fed pasture with Mac and her other old friends, enjoying retirement. Well done, Pit Pat!

Woodlands Tip Toe

Tip Toe is a typey grey mare with the most appealing expression!  She is a Pit Pat daughter and a really productive, consistent broodmare. Her offspring by Mac are generally dark bays, pony size, with a star and her unmistakeable sweet expression.

Woodlands Royal Patience

Patience brings the very valuable Ballinaboy Eamon bloodline into our herd.  Her babies by Mac are the largest on the farm, frequently topping out at 14.2h with an occasional overheight offspring. She is correct and Connemara in every way, with an old fashioned face and top notch movement.

Big Bears Shillelagh

Shillelagh was one of our foundation mares and in the eyes of some, our best. With solid Oak Hill breeding, she brought tremendous substance and type.  Her babies have bone, height, incredible type and athleticism. Her son Tribute, by Blue Ridge Donnelly, will never be leaving this farm.  Sadly, we lost Shillelagh at Tribute‘s birth.   Her sons Clapton and Caddy, full bodied 14.2h bay roans by Donnelly, are something to be proud of.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a 12.3 hand chestnut paint pony of mixed breed - most likely welsh/quarter pony.  One look at her offspring Blossom, Hopscotch, Latte, Jack o Lantern and Gingersnap tell you her legacy:  huge movement and the most amazing coat colorations!  Her offspring include chestnut, strawberry roan paint, red dun, and buttermilk dun and white paint!  Her babies are a touch shyer than the purebred connemaras to begin with but pack just as much potential. Daughter Blossom, a red dun roan, recently came home with an arm full of blue ribbons from her first hunter show. Look for Pumpkins sons and daughters at the big rated hunter shows next year.
